Forward Curve Dialog

Click the  Fixed Chart Button  from the Toolbar

 

Or

 

From the File Menu and then New Fixed Chart  F12

 

Or

 

Hit F12 on your keyboard.

 

You will be presented with a Empty Fixed Chart Window

 

From the Toolbar Select Add Forward Curve or Add Forward Curve Spread

 

Or

 

From the Context Menu Select Add Forward Curve or Add Forward Curve Spread

 

Or

 

From the Forward Curve Drop Down menu above the Toolbar

 

 

The Dynamic Tab is for creating Forward Curve plots that contain only active, non-expired contracts beginning with the front month.   Dynamic Forward Curves saved within your workspace will Dynamically change over time as contracts expire, always using present days active contracts within the Curve.   

 

 

The Static Tab is for creating Historic Forward Curve plots and Forward Curve plots with fixed, Static contracts.   The syntax for entering a range of contracts is *ROOT myyyy-myyyy.  For example, *NG X2004-H2010

Date Picker

Used to select a date for which to draw the curve

Relative

Select to enter a Relative Date Curve.  Relative Curves use a rolling displacement from the present date, instead of a static date.  For example, a plot "2 days ago from the present date"  or  "3 weeks ago from the present date"    

Add

Select once a date has been selected with the date picker

Real Time

Select to draw a real time curve

Today

Select to draw a curve with todays date

< Day

Add a curve that uses data from 1day less then selected date

< Week

Add a curve that uses data from 1 week less then selected date

< Month

Add a curve that uses data from 1 Month then selected date

Add a curve that uses data from 1 day ahead of selected date

Example 1:

 

 

In the example above we are viewing a Forward Curve of Crude, 36 months out. The curve is using data from 7/14.  The settings used to create this curve is displayed below.

 

 

Example 2:

 

 

In the example above, we are viewing a Forward Curve as of the closing on 7/17/2008 (blue shaded area) with the Forward curve as of the closing on 7/1/08 (dotted line).  The settings used to create this curve is displayed below.  After the chart was created, the plot style was changed from Line and Dot to Area plot by selecting the desired plot and changing its plot type.  

 

 

 

In the example above, we are viewing a Forward Curve as of the closing on 7/14 (Shaded Area) with the Forward curve as of the closing on 7/17/08 (Blue Histogram).   The settings used to create this curve is displayed below.
