Portfolio Features

Portfolio Filtering and Search

Users can filter out Watch Lists from Accounts/Portfolios.  An account or portfolio is a list of securities where at least one security has a quantity and a purchase price allowing for calculations of position/holding valuation, profit/loss, etc.  A watch list has no positions or holdings and thus no valuation.  Analysis can still be performed on watch lists based on information that is not value related. Security gain/loss, historical security performance, etc.

Aggregate Information

Provides the user with a very quick view of the portfolio’s valuation, its gain/loss since inception and for the day, plus any cash holdings.  Its purpose is to allow the user to quickly obtain a status of the portfolio.

Analysis Histogram

Provides the user with the ability to see, through an intuitive graphical visualization, information across an entire portfolio and how individual constituents compare with each other in a number of factors such as market value, historical performance, gains and losses, etc.  Users can choose different measurement factors through the “Measure By:” drop down selection in the Title and Toolbar.  The graphical representation allows a user to quickly and efficiently identify outliers within the portfolio.  Also, sorting via the security level detail grid allows a user to evaluate multiple factors and how investments are dispersed within a portfolio.

Security Cards

Security Cards offer a somewhat tangible understanding of each constituent within a portfolio offering relevant information front and center.  With a single click users can get more detailed information on the security such as a quick chart and level one market data, among other data points.

Factor Analysis and Grouping

With the “Measure By:” and “Group By:” options in the title and toolbar, users can perform factor based analysis across the portfolio as well as analysis at a grouping level by asset class, currency, sector, industry, etc.  This analysis is visualized both in the Analysis Histogram as well as in the adjacent Pie Chart and data grids below.  Multiple views of such information facilitates the efficiency with identifying trends and weightings and helps the user take action.

Data Grid

The data grid offers all of the market data available in Connect watch list and detailed quote components at the security level.  Users have the ability to display and organize data points in the same fashion.  By keeping a consistent user experience the learning curve for utilizing this new component in Connect is driven down to almost zero.

Currency

As the world shrinks and global markets become more accessible, investors are more likely to have investments in multiple currencies.  To make sense of an overall book of business or account, valuations across the portfolio require normalization to a single currency to understand a number of data points.  Users are given control to select the currency of which to view aggregate information.  Because currency exchange rates vary based across financial organizations users can manage their own exchange rates within Connect or for “ball-park” generalizations of values users can use a general market exchange rate coming from Interactive Data’s currency exchange feed.  (Note: rates are snapped once per day to reduce volatility associated with currency and security price fluctuations.

Portfolio Extension throughout Connect

The Portfolio Analysis component is a comprehensive and powerful tool for a user to perform high level and detail analysis, however, Market Data has a rich set of other tools of which we have decided to extend the Portfolio concept to offer even greater capabilities using these existing tools. As example:

Lookup: Just as a user has the ability to search for a security through Connect powerful Symbol Lookup tool, this tool has been expanded to allow for a user to search for Accounts and Portfolios using this same powerful tool.

Other components: Based on Market Data philosophy of creating customizable and efficient workflow solutions, users can display account or portfolio level information within other components as well:

· Detailed Quotes

· Watchlists

· Charts
