Equities Symbol Search

The Equities Symbol Search allows you to search for and select one or multiple equities symbols for entry into a chart, quote, data table, or Time and Sales window. Contracts are displayed for symbols that match your search criteria.

You may search for symbols using either the ticker ID, a part of the symbol's description, by exchange, or by CUSIP.

To Use the Equities Symbol Search

1. Click the Symbol Search (...) button from the Active Plug-in toolbar or from the Symbol cell on the Quote window.
   
   
   
   Result: The Symbol Search dialog box displays.
    

2. On the Filtered Search tab, position your cursor in the Search field.
   
   
    

   TO search by ...	THEN ...
   the ticker symbol	click the Symbol radio button, enter the ticker symbol (IDC, IBM, MSFT, etc.) in the Name Search field, then click the Search button.   You may use the * character as a wildcard. For example, ID* will return ticker symbols that start with the characters "ID".
   name or keyword	click the Name/Keyword radio button, enter a keyword in the Name Search field, then click the Search button.   You may use the * character as a wildcard. For example, ID* will return ticker symbols whose description starts with the characters "ID". Searching for *ID* will return ticker symbols that contain the characters "ID" anywhere in the description.
   CUSIP	click the CUSIP radio button, enter the CUSIP number in the Name Search field, then click the Search button.   You may use the * character as a wildcard. For example, 458* will return ticker symbols whose CUSIP starts with the characters "458".
   exchange	leave the Name Search field blank, select the desired Exchange from the Exchange drop-down list, then click the Search button. The Exchange drop-down list is divided into sections for your convenience, such as "U.S. Equities", "Canada Securities", etc.     Note: It doesn't matter which radio button is selected when performing a search by exchange.

Result: Ticker symbols that include the search criteria are displayed in the results window of the dialog box. If more than 500 symbols are found, use the Next and Previous buttons to view the results.

3. To narrow down the data returned in the results window, you may modify the Exchange or Instrument Type drop-down options and click Search.
    

4. Select the desired symbol from the results window, and click OK.
   
    

5. WHEN inserting to a ...	THEN you may ...
   chart	only select one symbol from the results window.
   quote	select one or more symbols from the results window:   Use the Select All button to choose all symbols shown.   Use the Unselect All button to clear all selected symbols.   To select multiple symbols, hold the Ctrl key and click each desired symbol. To select sequential symbols, hold the Shift key, click the first desired symbol, then scroll down to the end of the series and click the last desired symbol. All contracts displayed between the two selected symbols are highlighted.

    

    

6. Click OK to return the selected symbols to your window.
